Fears

What makes your PC wake up in the middle of the night screaming after a particularly troubling nightmare?
My current character has a great fear and its been so far a great RP tool. Being the fearless hero get boring fast and having a fear to RP can lead to great times and also, interesting challenges for your PC. I recently experienced something IG related to my PC's fear and it was -epic-. I recommend to everyone to find something their character is afraid of that other PCs could use against you or that DMs could play with to give you a special moment. And the journey of a PC to face those fears can be an interesting journey to walk.
Fears don't have to be complicated or numerous. Your PC can be scared of one thing only. Your PC can put up a brave front but still be scared to death of something. Fears have a wide range so you can get really creative. And people react differently to their fears. Some freeze on the spot, other run away in panic. Some get angry and try to face their fear but its really hard. One way or the other, RPing these fear can be really fun. Could be you are afraid of fire. Of failure. Of bears. Could be your PC is a coward too. Or a hero with that one fear that could crush him.
I'd love to hear from other players about great experience they had with a PC's fear.

Szcarnes Biggest fear was being alone. This never came up as DM plot twist or anything,
but when he finally came to terms with it- he retired ;-)Caylees fear was similar, but different. Alone did not bother her so much as being Lonely.
Read her poems .Will was a Paladin who was smart enough to know fear, just pushed through it because Knight in Shiny Armor.
He was always terrified when he went to Old town for any reason. just tried to not show it so much.My characters Demons are almost all very personal, a character flaw that I try hard to portray in how they act.

Leons fear is actually what spurs him on. He is terrified of loss, losing more that he cares about. Its why he is so aloof and polite to everyone, its a way of separation. He has only got close to one character so far, and would number a few more as friends

Tobias has been robbed of fear with everything else in his life… There is only vengeance.
-
Wynton has a great fear that only a few characters know, it is instrumental in changing his opinions and views of things.

Bump.
I think it's incredibly important for someone to roleplay fear after getting beat to a pulp. I've seen this so often it's really just sad and for me it really breaks the immersion of the game. It doesn't make any sense for you to be one hit away from death itself and just respond with an insult. Fear can be an amazing tool to further RP interactions but I think it's important to remember that not everyone can be Sir William the Fearless.

faithfull do not turn on their god, even if their god turns on them.
the average man might. or woman, but i do not feel as though a cleric would.
martyrdom is preferable to abandoning your god.And in a perfect world, when THAT is being RP'd the gods would respond in some way… in a perfect world where gods exist and all. -
Well Magnataur doesn't doesn't exactly fear
! Maybe you can find out IG instead of out here ;) but he does have a very strong disliking for it and it's rather uncontrolable nature

yeah, so all i have are taunts. Thats it, its my entire ditty bag.
I wont go evil and use bloodstones. I wont use bottled fey.
So I play a religous zealot who would rather die than succomb to presure to bow to another god.
So i play a loudmouthed halfling who is rightously indignant about having his favorite hat stolen by cowards who would not complete a quest they had agreed to do from begining to end.
I play someone who gets pissed the hell off that anotherr character reneges on payment for services rendered, and is going to lose another pvp but speaks the hell up anyway. Sorry that my play style breaks your immersion. I have to deal with being PvP and Loseing ALL THE TIME unless i have dm help OR its moderatly fair and one one one( using a bout a zillion in consumables just to stay standing)My characters would all rather die than give any one the satisfaction of showing fear. I dealt with that all through grade and high school, being afraid, ill be damned if im going to in a gods damned video game.
nuff said( OOC rants i am still very sorry for)

Your religious zealot might not bow before another god, but he may still be afraid to die in the gutter beaten up. He could be terrified and fall into prayers and beg his own god for protection. There are many ways to react to fear. Some actually do become provocative in the face of fear (usually ending them in more trouble though), but they are still afraid and will everything they can to get the hells out of there. Some will break and do whatever their attacker demands, other will martyr themselves to stay true to their gods.
As long as the fear is well role played.
Also, fear cannot be imposed on others. You can beat down the paladin a thousand time and he'll not fear you. (silly martyrs…) But you can hold someone he cares for hostage, threaten to sacrifice his best friend or lover or find that thing he fears the most and terrorize him with that. Be creative on how to terrorize others. And those that get terrorize, your PCs isn't fearless, react to these fears and roll with them. You never know where it will go!

I never said my characters were fearless… I said they'd not give anyone the satisfaction of seeing it, at least where there own safety is concerned.
My Characters will spit curses at who ever is beating them down until they are unconscious because its all they have. that is it. -

My Characters will spit curses at who ever is beating them down until they are unconscious because its all they have. that is it.In my opinion if I am standing over a PC I just beat down and they are cursing me out and threatening me, it makes perfect sense to kill them. If someone starts groveling for their life, however, I will probably find the scene fun and realistic and not rob them and offer up some juicy plot info due to arrogance. OOC courtesy goes both ways and your bleeding out PC screaming at my dude with a sword to your throat that just pummeled you, that you're going to murder them? Why would the other PC not just kill them aside from any reason except OOC ones?
One of the best things are when players can separate IC from OOC and roleplay how they would actually react as someone beaten, bloody, and likely terrified for their life.
-
Also, taunting people is initiating PvP…
-
deleted ,pointless, no one gets it.
-
Well it's not quitre as simple as all that.
While it is pretty bad for a player to roleplay not being afraid of being killed by someone who has clearly defeated them, and taunt them, and goad them so much, that it's pretty hard to -not- kill them at that point –- It should also be understood that, having them in that situation, should not be an every day occurence, it should be a meaningful event, not encounter 1, or one week into the lifetime of a character, it should be the result of various battles (In which people didn't have DO WHAT I SAY OR DIE situations in their face) events, intrigue, spying, etc etc before it gets to that point.
If you find yourself putting a blade to someones neck every few days, and then being annoyed people aren't crying in fear and bowing to your awesome mechanical prowess. Then essentially, you are digitally bullying people, and I will just ban you.

never ran into this, Zool…it may be always, or mostly, the same mechbots that kick my ass, but its not everyday
. the issues are mine, I own them, no one else.Call them character flaws that I they refuse to show fear, what the worse that will hapenn, someone fd's my char, I wait four days, and respawn.
If I had known that was an actual option, Merry would still be running about whining about his damn hat. -
That's a pretty bad way of looking at things though, because it makes death cheap. You could probably do with thinking about how to make the stories your involved in more interestging for everyone.
Sure, supermans invincible, except kryptonite. But the thing is, because of the nature of a multiplayer, and therfore, multi protagonist story, superman, in this case, isn'tr shielded from actually being killed by the bad guy, because the writers will keep writing about all the other characters.
It's more game of thrones than DC comics.
