Requesting some help - Pulling MAC addresses from a router
-
Hi guys, long time no talk! Sorry for posting something super off-topic, but I know there's some techy folks amongst our group, and figured someone here might be able to help me out.
I recently had my house broken into, and they got away with 2 Macbooks, 2 iPads, a Windows tab, my PS4, PS Vita, and 3DS. The police haven't had any luck yet tracking these people down, and the trail is unfortunately running cold. I just noticed yesterday that someone logged into my PS4 14 hours ago and started playing Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. I called SCEA, and they said they can forward the location of the device to the police if I can provide them with the devices MAC address. This is where I'm running into a problem.
I have a home network running through a Netgear R6200 router. I logged into the online "Router Login" config tools hoping I can find the devices MAC address here, but the "Attached Devices" section on the web utility only shows devices that are currently logged into the network.
Does anyone by any chance know if there's another way I can grab the PS4's Mac address from the router?
Thanks,
~John Combs -
Maybe the router stores log files which would contain it?
My advice would be to stop using it until you can figure out where those files are, and how to get at them, as they might get overwritten after a certain time/amount of uses.

There is a good chance Sony has it, especially if you have an account with them to play online.

Also, you might be able to check the DHCP pool. If it hasn't been to long, the MAC addresses assigned IP might still be in reservation.

Here is the manual. http://www.manualagent.com/netgear/r6200/owners-manual/page-79. This page talks about the login logs and shows time and IP address.
Page 87 shows how to get to the list of Mac addresses that have connected.http://www.manualagent.com/netgear/r6200/owners-manual/page-87

Thanks all! Definitely very helpful stuff here. I knew I could count on you guys. :) Unfortunately, it looks like I've inquired too late, and I'm still out of luck.
My family has a lot of wireless devices that run through the router everyday, and in the Router Logs I can only view devices that connected in the last 3 days or so since the log viewer only holds 250+ entries (the robbery occurred about a week ago now).
I'm pretty sure Sony should be able to get this info via my PSN ID, but they're unwilling to work with me unless the police serve them with a subpoena. Hopefully I'll be able to get it that way.

Amazing that you can't get the data they have on -you- when you need it for good reasons huh?

If there is a good method to identify yourself, it is quite disappointing. Not sure if it is the case or not.
