Drag your potions from your inventory to their portrait. They will drink the potion.
Suddenly realized so few people know this.

Mage armour potions. 44GP. +4 AC for your buddies. Pro tip
-
Or blur! Protection from evil.. so many possibilities!
-
This is like… the single most important Animal Companion strategy there is.
-
also good to know that unsummon/summon ends spells.
-
Tip #2, monsters (including animal companions) are always able to penetrate a damage reduction equal to what they themselves have…. they can penetrate dr's of +1
Give em stoneskin, they can penetrate Dr's of up to +5
Tip #3, you can only give your companions potions of a spell that can be cast on others normally, this means you can't feed them shield potions, and I don't think you can feed them blur either?
That being said shield of faith potions give the same ac as shield potions do, and shield of faith is a spell that can work on others. -
Blur works fine, shield is a special case.
-
Mage armor pots are best, and cheapest. Always keep a supply for your companions.
Any spell that is cast on self only will not work in potion form to pets (shield, death armor etc)
