PvP Ethics
-
Just a few things I would like to discuss…
And like to see.
I would like to see more OOC courtesy when it comes to PvP... a simple tell can suffice.
PvP is meant to be fun for both sides...so people should try to make it fun for both sides. idk maybe just my thought on it.. I like to ask people first if their into PvP some are not..and their here for RP and quests...with no conflict included. and I can see where if they get beat up ... I tmight dishearten them and they wont stick around much if their PCs always getting the boot.. and Im sure a lot fo you are thinking..don't start shit wont be shit..well some people don't start shit and get shit.
but that's just me.
What are some of your thoughts on making PvP more fun for the other player?

Frankly, I love PvP, FDing others for the sake of a story and getting FD'd for the sake of a story.
However, PvP ethics does factor into it somewhat.
I don't think you should have to get someone's permission to PvP them, that's stupid in my opinion.
Hell, you don't even need someone's permission to FD them.HOWEVER, you should endeavour to RP out the FDing once you've subdued your foe, make it as fun as you can for the player whilst still being as in-character as you can.

One thing Kelianfly isn't mentioning is that two hours after he made a dwarf pc, he was fded in pvp, he made a different dwarf pc the morning after and got fded again within two days. He's been very cool about it and hasn't complained about it to anyone but merely mentioned to me what happened calmly which I think is amazing because I for one feel that's just wrong.
To me that's a rather lame way to go about pvping, the whole "trim the weeds before they grow" tactic might seem like a good way to secure victory in the long run but the point of this game is to have fun and tell a story, the real victory in coa lies in a concept that gets remembered fondly. If killing a char before it even has a chance to tell a story doesn't generate or further another story, ask yourself if it was really all that necessary to FD in the first place, or if you could have done it a different way.

There are different views on this and certain opinions tend to want me to avoid participating the same story with the other guy, especially as an ally, as I'd prefer not to feel guilty about how things unfold.
And if it means that I suck, or I am lame, then I do, and I am. -

Not sure what level this 2 hour old Dwarf was, but not everyone power levels. And hunting low lvl characters on FD is not cool. Especially those under 4th lvl because they do not even have the option to FD you back at that point.

The dm team won't accept pointless fd and will often just retcon it.
Fd doesn't end a character anyway, so this 'tactic' doesn't work.
Please don't bring up individual instances with names, because often things have already been looked into by the team, and everything has been sorted out.
By all means discuss generally.

By the way FD is just permanent if a DM tells it or if the player that died feels it should be.

THIS.
I get the feeling that often people pvp -and- FD to further -their- story.
In pvp, I think it's more important to consider how the conflict further's the other players story, instead of just how it furthers yours. While it might seem like a good idea for your Big Bad Evil to send a message by killing the random lvl 3 adventurer that stumbled into wrong place at wrong time, stop for a moment to consider does the pvp (that ends in FD and possibly permanently killing off the other char) affects -their- story.Likewise, if you play a Great Goodly Guy, consider if that lvl 3 "Oh I summoned an allip, I'm such a bad-ass necromancer"-guy really deserves to die. Sure, killing him off might furhter your story as a great hero that opposes Orcus, but it doesn't likely further their story.
Seriously, people should do more "stabs you in the chest Okay, he's as good as dead, let's leave him for the rats" and less [switches to FD to finish you off]. Enemies, Nemesies, and long-winded rivalries are a lot more interesting to both of your stories when compared to simple speed-bump opponents.
Give your enemies time to grow! Let your hate towards each other bloom! Let the conflict mature into a full-bodied rivalry!
