Periodical Resets
-
Since most people do not wish to take the initiative about it I guess I will have to bring up this topic, even though its on everybody's mind.
When Puffy was active, she made it a point to reset the server every 24 Hours.
Ever since Puffy has reduced her activity time drastically the playerbase have seen a rise in the time of intervals between resets. At times players on the IRC channel even asked and pleased to DMs to reset it but this most times is ignored.Because of the increased time in between reset intervals players cannot Quest properly and at times have to wait for days before serious bugs(I.E Faction Bugs, etc..) that are usually fixed by resets are fixed. While it has less bearing on high level characters and veterans, it has a serious effect on new players. It causes new players to get bored rather quickly and eventually leave. It causes most players to idle in various places around the server or bounce in and out just to check if the server was reset or not.
Since the DM team has also stated recently its likely going to be hell to remove the Quest Timer or even Script periodical resets, it becomes more and more needed for a DM to actually reset the server themselves.
This is not done to antagonize the team, nor instigate unrest in the server but I believe it is something that should be brought up to your consideration. We appreciate what you guys are doing for the server, but I am of a firm opinion that when there are certain problems - They should be aired out and not bottled inside.

I have been forced to run 3-4 PCs because of this of late.

I am thankful I have little free time due to RL issues myself. :D
I'm on the opinion that something that shows DMs the time passed since last reset would help their job.
Either a timer that shows it on the forums, or an IG dot command that automatically fires once a DM logs in.Scripting gurus? Is this possible? Answer swift before Zool comes and says he already has an idea how!
;) -
Yeah it is possible to program a command to do such a thing thought it doesn't actually need to be a dot command as the server itself already has a program that keeps time it would just be a matter of adding to that program that after "X" amount IG time has passed then the server would send a message out to any currently online DM to reset ASAP, or if no DM is online at the time the message is sent out you could have the message be stored until such a time a DM logs on as the server will send the message to them, as the server already sends messages to players when they log on. It wouldn't necessarily be too difficult but it would be time consuming.
-
I just suggest to SHOW the timer somewhere, so DMs could be aware of the situation without spending time inquiring on IRC.
-
Well then yes that's possible too

I will try to do regular resets again, cause I feel sorry for you guys :)

The problem with scripting a reset is that we can't use the nwn command to reset the server as it won't fully reset it, and doing so could cause MORE problems than not resetting it.
There is a means of doing it, it involves the database, and Linux commands, neither of which are my forte. I will talk to strawman though. Because I know you guys need to run the same five quests over and over to reach the next level (I'm just playing, but there are over 70 quests currently active)
It will get looked into. I only have a phone for Internet. right now and might have two real life projects coming up soon (which involve money to buy food to power the finger muscles I use to script) so that might slow it down a bit. It is high on "the list " though
