How goes it?

Was reading an article on Rock Paper Shotgun and I saw Neverwinter Nights and Neverwinter Nights 2 on that list of Gamespy games that is losing online support. Was just curious if our geniuses here at City of Arabel figured a way around that whole issue yet, and wondered how Arabel was fairing. It's been quite some time since I played, so I figured I'd stop by and say hello and see how things were going. 8)
I miss everyone and might consider starting a new character sometime soon, if time allows me.

From what I've seen you don't need Gamespy, in theory. Best as I can tell it's going to make it where you can't use server browser (which hasn't worked since 2010 anyway when the master server was turned off), or use chatrooms. But you can still use direct connect and bookmarks from favorites. I'd have to see what happens when Gamespy meets its end, but I don't think this will actually do much, since due to lack of working server browser presently, the NWN community made its own server listings page.

Direct Connect should still work, though I'm not sure how much more support Gamespy can pull. Then again I'm not a tech guru, but as far as I can see what we're doing right now is no different than playing via TCP/IP multiplayer a la Age of Empires. So I don't expect we'll see any more troubles. The IG server browser is dead, though there are other out of game means of getting server IP addresses.
Also if you're coming back you'll need to sign a waiver so that we're not liable for any resulting problems at work/family/friends. It also has some small print that no one's ever read but probably has something to do with assigning the souls of your first three characters to a Mr A. Smodeus. Respectable guy. Always makes for riveting conversation, or so I'm told.

Ah Smodeus, I know him well. Everytime I go to visit him, he calls me Sir for some reason.

Yeah, gamespy does nothin, none of this affects us anymore than the original shutting down of the master sever did.

There is however a way to get the server browser back, a bit complicated if you re not geekish (Tech wise). Pretty sure I had a link posted somewhere and instructions, project was called NWNCX I think.
