Initial impressions/Feedback

Server went up today, and reception has been overwhelmingly positive from almost everyone i've talked to. There have been suggestions/requests made of what they would like to see more of, and things they feel are missing.
Things people have liked:
More intense atmosphere, more interaction because of single city area
More dangerous
Feels like a frontier
Feels freshAs for things people people wished improvements in:
More information made available. Both IG as to stuff going on, and help finding stores and quests, as well as more background on the forum, and NPC write-ups. All of these are being worked on, but I would love to hear what specifically people would like to hear more about. All feed back is welcomed and desired

I love it, great atmosphere and the setting feels a lot more darker than its been. Also more challenging which is something that was sorely needed in CoA. Amazing job guys
-
I'm so excited that I will only think about my opinion later. ;)
Some of the shops feel a bit too crowded though… like the one the booksellers and the wandmaker resides in currently.
But it's the only thing I don't like yet. -
Have a non droppable book in game that is placed in every character's inventory with a list of all the .dot commands
-
People are acting like they are higher level/better equipped, leading them to do fugue-esqe things. I've noticed this from the start. They need to change the way they play to better suit the current danger in the server. As it is, no one really fears death. They just respawn.
Map Pins in Citidel for Nada's House, Albon's house (a signage for his house of relaxation?) and Maysen's House
Change map pin for Shrine of Auril to Shrine of the Furies?
Rework the advertisements in Maleen Tower. Seems like a carbon copy of the old one.
Visible NPC guards at various points in the citadel, such as at the gates.JOURNAL ENTRY for .dot commands, not a book!
Move Flannigan to Maleen's Tower as a basic store there.
-
Just don't, please.
It'd add weight, eat up space, and they can be found on the forums anyway. The journal entry needs to be fixed though, only half of them are visible.

Overall very exciting and looking good. As foreseeable, a few things broke in the massive update but I bet in a few days all the standard quests will be running smoothly again.
Would wish that the dangerous areas outside of the Citadel would offer a bit more to explore, a few things to find, some exp markers, etc.

Everything seems awesome so far. Few small things the top of my head, all of the major stores could use signs. Some stores seem a bit overcrowded with sellers. The Fine Hells could use some rooms to sleep in. Maybe a few NPC's wandering the ruined part of town, beggars perhaps? Some of the signs and NPC dialog need updating.
I'm sure alot of this is stuff that's in the works as the server gets back up to speed.

Good

Consolidation. Primary areas of interaction between players (settled city, lawless city, and three wilderness areas) are easily reached, well sized and have all of the quests and key points of interest within view of a minute or two. In a post 55/55 age, this is good because the main reason not to play is when you can't find anyone else.
-
Setting. The word 'frontier' is thrown around a lot in sci-fi and fantasy settings, and although Arabel used to be a major hub, it now feels completely isolated in the world. Everything around it has been met with calamity and there's no sign of help from afar, in spite of the roaming monsters, undead and otherwise.

Shops do seem overcrowded, but that's not my main issue.
I would really love to see shopkeepers from the old version not just shuffled around but more or less overhauled, to show that ten years have passed and Arabel hit its harder times. Would also be great to see some completely new faces.
Did that make sense? Also, newbie area (which now is Maleen's tower, right?) needs more commodities, like cheap potion vendor.

As a new player I've been building a small list of what I do and do not like of CoA so far.
The good
Tons of things to explore: This town is a lot more bigger than I thought it would be. It feels like an actual city, and a good amount of wilderness as well. Much props.Enjoyable Roleplay: The roleplay, when I find it, is good. People have their own characters building, things going on, etc. Hard to find RP, either on nwn or other video game platforms, that is enjoyable.
The Bad
Quests: As for me as a new player, there's no introductory quests that help you as a player show you the city. You're kinda just tossed in, and left to explore. You wander about aimlessly, and kind of have to guess which quests you can do or not. There's a lot of broken ones as well, but that's understandable as the server is newly opened and you guys are working on that.Outdated / still updating info: I like to look up information on servers and the like when I first join them, but as it currently stands, a lot of info is old, outdated, misplaced, hard to find, or irrelevant currently. As a new player, it's intimidating to look for the actual good stuff, like which factions are still active or not, the lists of summoning themes, and things like that. And with a bunch of broken links (when I last checked a few days ago, that is) it's a surmountable task that a new player has to look through to simply understand a gameplay mechanic that they're wondering about.
I am enticed by the server so far, and I know you guys are working / trying your best about what's currently broken. Keep up the good work, I'll be playing around IG for the time being. Thanks for reading.

Thanks for the feed back Wundy.
I made a test character earlier today, and noted the same thing you did about it being some what confusing to find my way around, despite having seen the area before. Thats definately something I want to look into. Maybe an introductionary PC by the spawning area, and a list of "jobs" by Maleen Spire.
Im glad you like the server so far, and please, do keep giving us feed back as you make your way through it. Also, you can contact a DM either on the forums, IRC, or IG if you have questions regarding any uncertainties.

So far I am liking the overall feel of the new server, I like how some of the NPCs have been "aged" to keep up with the timeline. I like the gritty feel of the current area. I haven't been questing a whole lot so no comment there, what I have done seems pretty normal.
Overall single biggest issue? Many of the "reused" NPCs or quests still mention outdated info and places that do not exsist. It would be nice to have the quest givers/logs point to the current location of things, due to this many things are just odd to try to complete.
I'll post more after I do more productive things.

Outdated / still updating info: I like to look up information on servers and the like when I first join them, but as it currently stands, a lot of info is old, outdated, misplaced, hard to find, or irrelevant currently.
This person has a great point, I've felt this has been and issue for a long time and I've been a long time player. We have no Website anymore and even the forum can be rather hard to find based purely on an internet search. This information needs to be made much easier to find and access. Hell, even as a long time player I don't bother with any of the summoning themes or cleric domains or anything like that because the information is to confusing and hard to come by.
One more thing, and this should probably go in the suggestion forums as it isn't specifically about the new version but has been a problem with arable for a long time. Clothes and armor customization is ridiculous, firstly it charges you money even if you DONT change anything, secondly having to trail and error through all the dyes is awful and a waste of money. I'm not against spending money for customizing. I just think you should be able to preview your looks and colors then "finalize" and pay the money. As a roleplaying server I think its important that we have easy access to how we make our characters look but the system is awful. This has been my one complaint with arable through all the time I've been here. Again, maybe this just belongs in the suggestion forum.
-
Yeah, I got the customisation of items 're done quickly, and making it possible to go back to what you had before without spending gold while avoiding exploits is harder than you might think, it's something I intend to fix. Dyes have always been the way they are, but I could make a new st stems for it, again it's a lot of time and effort for something that already "works" when there's stuff that doesn't, it is on 'the list' though
-
I have taken it upon myself to start working on the wiki in my downtime, starting with making the front page actually useful.
I only vaguely know where to head next, so if you have an idea of what needs desperate updating or such first let me know and I'll do it eventually.
-
Thanks Hellz. I believe it would be useful to update it with the class changes we have in the Player Resources Forum, namely the fighter/monk kits.
Sticking the blurb Puffies has put up in Player Resources on post-wipe Arabel would be handy too!

I like the feel of things for the most part. The layout of the market is great, though I would get some of the merchants into their own buildings again rather than putting so many together inside one building. They are competitors in a shrinking market after all.
I haven't been able to explore beyond the main area, so I'm still looking forward to seeing what's out there. -
Don't think about it like that. Think about it as an opportunity.
These merchants don't want to be cooped together either. Maybe they will reward you if you get them their own buildings? Look at the book sellers in the Literature. Maybe if you retrieve some rare books, he can sell them and make enough money to get his own place like before?
