Salutations!

Hey there,
I wasn't sure where to put this, but I figured since it only had a circumstantial link to the game itself it should go here. This is just a run of the mill "hi, I'm a newbie" post, really.
So, basically, I kind of got into the whole RP scene fairly recently after I started playing Neverwinter (the MMORPG) and found it to be a pretty cool experience and all-round good fun that really got me wanting to learn about the Forgotten Realms and their lore. I've little experience with actually playing DnD, but I sorta get the mechanics of NWN as I've played it for a while, mostly single-player.
So, yeah, while I deliberate what kind of character to make, this is gonna sit here like a sore thumb greeting you all. Having read through a lot of pretty informative posts about the nature of RP here, the expectations of DMs and what they actually do in the game-world, I dare say I'm ready to jump in, but I'll gladly take on any advice from veterans, about the number-crunching or the lore.
Thanks lots in advance!

Welcome to CoA

Hope you enjoy playing here. Don't be afraid to ask questions of DM's and players alike, the DMs are just players anyway.

Welcome! :D

Thanks muchly, it's good to feel welcome, so I guess for now I'll just go with the flow and try not to mix up what lore I've learned from 4th edition with the lore you guys are following now, which I'm assuming is the previous one, as I've heard no mention of floating chunks of earth or devastating magical disasters.
So, anyway, I'll see you all in-game, hopefully.

In case you can't handle the Haks or havent read the thread, just start from that and jump in! Welcome!

If you take my advice, you create a generic char, like a caravan guard, and start playing. You'll probably stop playing him in a week, and start something new and fresh, but it's good fun to learn.
Also you can heal much more with resting if you take a long enough bath first. (long enough=game time is not the same when you leave the bath :) )
It took me like 1.5 years to figure out. Also, welcome here!

Welcome! Just in with a new character, head to the guildhall and start meeting some folks. We're all willing to help you (and adventure, loot, plunder, kill etc with you too!)

or…
@Khamal**:
We're all willing to help you (and adventure with, loot, plunder, kill etc you too!)
But believe me, there are guys and gals here who can make even that fun!
One of my best 5 mins on CoA was when I played a bedine (nomad guys in a nearby desert), done something very minor what turned out to contribute to starting one of the largest wars in the server's history, and while no idea which bedine was it, I was taken in for interrogation as one.
The officer was intimidating, bureaucratical and was despising me the same time, and I totally enjoyed every second of it. :D -
The best advice I could give you is to get comfortable and have a good time. Your playstyle and the characters you enjoy playing will come naturally as time goes by, but the community is always here when you have questions concerning how you should go about them, or when you stumble over things that keep you indecisive.
Catch you in game sometime. Cheers.

Oh goody, someone newer than me in CoA :-)
Enjoy the city, I know i do, and I am having a blast with my 4th character.
First 3 really did not pan out.
If Harry is a round, he will gladly help you with pretty much anything he can.
So will everyone else.Have fun.
