No other class but a fighter!
-
every time I play a rogue and try and help out by making my lock pick and disable trap my best skills, there is a fighter that is triggering the traps and taking the damage as well as bashing in all the locked doors. it feels like the only class arabel ever needs is a fighter. you are lucky to get any caster above LVL 6 and there is no need for a scout with a fighter who can tank and bash everything.
this needs to be looked into and posibly fixed so that arabel is more class friendly. I am not saying that we need to get rid of the fighters but we do need to open the posiblilty of playing another class.

Thing is, when we add traps that fighters can't just walk over, people complain about that too and that it isn't fair that we require you to have a rogue.
Though, I do want to add a check to the scripts so that if you bash a chest there is a chance of destroying objects inside it.

I'd answer this as someone who played a rogue for a 1.5 years. You need to show up with your A-game if you want people to respect a scout and this should also be treated IC. Sometimes when people refused to acknowledge me as a scout and just ran ahead (In quests where you need a scout) I left and later found out they died and lost couple of levels.
I know that many times during DM events for example, a DM would go out of their way to give additional information to a scout to ensure they have a role in this.

I don't why fighters feel the need to rush head long into everything. I let a scout do it's job whenever we have one, and a rogue too as I was under the impression the script Moloch wants to add was already implemented.
-
I think it is the people you go with..My rouge did many scouting and disabling traps and opening locks. She was called upon several times for such.
If a fighter dose not let a Rouge do their job then don't go with them the next time. Simple as that.

I've been guilty of not letting characters scout a few times, but usually its because I wasn't aware the character actually was the scouting type. I try to calm other melee fighters down whenever they just rush without any RP. Rushing ahead makes it hard to survive for all characters in the party…

On some chests, not all yet.

Or take the easy life. Stay in the back and watch, letting them wave you forward for the locks on non-breakeble items.
Snicker all the way home with your share.Seriously, though, A lot depends on who you are with. I don't see it THAT much. except from dwarves, and, well, they're dwarves. you know.

Let them walk ahead, they'll learn eventually.
Trapsmen and locksmiths are always welcome in my groups if you feel unappreciated. As are dedicated healers, i even pay healers double! (shameless promotion for da Bane Train)

its on all chests that use the treasure system mol.
-
Simple solution, if there go around charging into traps, just hang back in stealth, there clearly not paying attention >.<

I agree with most of this thread, but you know me, I'm going to play devils advocate. Usually instead of a scout saying "hey, i will scout for you guys" at the begining of a mission they wait until someone springs a trap or bashes a box to make some snarky remark. This is not a good way to go about pushing your cause. Also, I have seen scouts that take for ever, trippling the length of time it takes to do the quest. This also is counter productive toward getting people to want you to scout for them.
That being said, rogues are the best looters available due to the fore mentioned treasure system. If you aren't using the ones in your group, you are cheating yourself out of more then the cost of the healing it takes to recover from the trap you just stepped on or the time it took you to bash that box.

No quest should require a certain class to complete, or do. Sometimes its hard enough to get a barebones group as it is. But if they offer alternative routes, more rewards, or other cool features if you do have one, thats just awesome.

There are still some quests that are impossible to complete without a Rogue or a Chime of opening

Like the orc springs for example. One way in, invincible locked door.

Knock. Bards. Cross classes skills. Chime of opening.

Anyway on a more serous note than my last comment…
Any character class set can be made to work, (this includes monk/paladin paladin/wizard and rogue/sorcerer, heck even monk/sor now). The trick is to learn how to make use of what you got and find a good team to work with.
Also trust me, fighter mindlessly charging everything in sight, work less and less as you level...

Or find the key… unless its bugged and doesn't drop anymore.

so I am noticing that there is allot here on roges but I am wondering about the wizards and casters as well. I have noticed and even those I play with have noticed that the AI targets everyone who isn't wearing armor witch makes it realy hard to survive as a wizard in the back. I have died so many times because some goblin or orc (creatures not smart enough to care about armor) target me bacuse I am not wearing armor.
what the hell is up with that?
-
Same thing that is up with players being smart enough to target NPC mages.
There are plenty of spells wizards can use to stay alive, but rarely do they use them all.
