Heraldic crest generators
-
The new crests of noble houses are pretty cool. I could definitely use similar ones for my PnP game. Can whoever made them please share the name of the program he used to generate them? If you know any other good generators feel free to chime in.
Thanks! -
It's called photoshop, and the DM who makes them spends quite some time producing one, it's not a three-clikc thing.

Really? They're drawn from scratch?
They just look so uniformed, i thought they were generated with some special program.
Well.. Big props to the artist then. -
Personally, I would have made them with vector graphics. And if needed add some more detail to them in photoshop after. Much easier to work with shapes and lines in illustrator than in photoshop, but shades and nuances are easier in photoshop…

They're all hand crafted.

All the faction heraldries and the deity symbol for Morvys was made by Matriarch even before she was a DM. :)
There's a lot of artists on CoA though, ask around and maybe someone will be willing to draw something up for you? I've had one or two drawn for me, though I've used them for coa.

My process is the following:
I make 3 handmade sketches with what information I've received for the faction/group/individual. (sometimes pencil drawing, sometimes straight with my graphic tablet in photoshop, sometimes a mix(yay for scanners)) Ifneeded, ajustments are made, mix and match, etc.
Once that is done and approved, I trace the outline in Adobe Illustrator (vector graphic) then do colors in Adobe Photoshop. Here also I usually make 3 tries.
When its all done, I save in png 24 a few different formats and send that to whoever I made it for.
This here was for the Golden Wyvern Mercenary Company.

What brush did you use for the texture on wings and shield? Or did you find an image you based a texture on?
-
I've asked this once before, but happened to forget, sorry.
How long does this whole process take in working hours? -

Its not a brush but a texture of snake skin or leather (for the wings) and marble stone (for the shield) I put on a different layer and put it in Overlay mode. Then I link it to the color below (clipping mask). I oftenly use a gold fleck texture, the marble one, fire, snake skin or leather, and rough metal.

How long does this whole process take in working hours?2-5 hours for sketches, depending.
1-2.5 hours for linework in illustrator.
2-4 hours for colors.between 5 to 11 hours per. Sometimes I think I can spend 15-20h on some (depending how much back and forth with my "client" I have to do). I really should time myself next time XD

Hm, I need to get illustrator and photoshop installed again. I might try to make something, though I'm not skilled enough to make them as good as Matriarch :p

Hehe. 'Generator'
I don't know why, but I always find it funny when people think it's a generator.
Matriarch is seriously epic at this stuff, then again, I'm pretty certain they are a professional concept/background/matte painting/general awesome artist working for a company. So they would be!
