Nwn in Windowed mode!
-
"Open up the nwn.ini file in your NWN directory using notepad. Look under [Display Options] and change the following FullScreen=0 and AllowWindowedMode=1. You may also need to adjust the Height and Width settings to obtain a window of the desired size. "
This is what I found on the interwebs but it doesn't make a ton of sense :'( If any one knows how to reformat it to play in windowed mode or if this makes sense to them let me know! (It's from 3 years ago :'( though I doubt much has changed if anything)

You need to find the folder where NWN is installed, there is a file called nwn.ini there. Right click and choose edit (if you have to choose a program to open with, go for notepad, its just a text file really). There you will find a section marked [Display Options], just edit the FullScreen and AllowWindowedMode lines, or add them if you can't find them between [Display Options] and the next section marked with brackets [].
Adjusting height and with I would do by starting up the game so you get the menu for Play, Toolset, DM Client etc. Choose Configure from this menu, and set your screen resolution to a bit lower than what your screen has.

Before I start NWN, I drag my start menu row (not sure how it is called) to take two "rows", start it to get a window vertically filling my screen, then drag the start menu row again restoring the original size. This way NWN fills the proper area. Vertically. Horizontally it's smaller then the screen.
Is there a more convenient way to adjust this, can I write something in the nwn.ini? -
In the nwn.ini file (found in NWN install folder)
[Display Options]
Width=1600
Height=900You could manually set the exact size you want here. Just keep adjusting the numbers until you are happy

Why didn't I bother with this? I'm such a fool.
thanks
-
Is it possible it could be named something else (Nwn.ini?)? I don't seem to have it in here : / I'll keep looking though thanks for the help.
-
what files do you see in your root nwn install folder? nwn.exe for example? It should be there, there are some other .ini files as well, but its the nwn.ini one you need to edit for windowed mode
-
You may need to show hidden files. To also mighht want to turn off 'hidde known file extenstions'

Will the game run better or worse in windowed mode as opposd to full screen?
-
Not sure in my case, just didn't like fullscreen so I set it to windowed right away.
One tip though, is to not rely on mouse edge to turn the camera. Use middle mouse button, or set up keys to turn camera. I have set Q and E keys to turn the camera as I don't generally need the strafe left/right movement for my char

Where is that found is that found Zool? I have Windows 7 home premium and I have seen it hide certain documents before.
Aslo I am looking in the general folder, so like where the Hak. tlk, overides etc are found. The only things editable are nwnplayer, Nwn, nwtoolset. All three of these open in Notepad.
-
yes you seem to have 'hidde known file extenstions' set, which means that .ini ending is hidden for you. The one called nwn, if you edit it can you see [Display Options] there? It should be that file you edit for this.
There is no need to worry about displaying the file extension before editing, but if you just see wierd numbers and letters, its not a text file - and don't edit that.
-
it is wise anyway to turn of extension hiding, so you can't run into a virus called something_harmless.jpg.exe.
-
Got it to work! Cept, when I go into full screen everything is suuuuper small, will I just have to change the width/height settings till I find something that works?

Okay. That didn't work, and I have no idea why.
I use 1280800 resolution. Settings were 1024768. This resulted in a window horizontally shorter then the screen (that's okay) but vertically as long as the screen, overlaping with the start menu, so it probably was meant to be longer vertically by the program. Weird.
Setting different values made the window considerably smaller filling only half of the screen, which is even more weird. (tried 1280714, [something between 1024 and 1280][something between 768 and 800], all the same. 1280*800 made the game run non-windowed, full screen I think, opposed to pressing alt+enter in windowed mode what gives the set resolution.)Any ideas?

Try that then
