Player Courtesy with Bell Dings and Sendings
-
I've been around a long while. I know alot of people do this, but also alot of people don't.
So just as a request - if you're in a faction and some one rings your bell - and you can't get to it, send a tell saying that. Or if you are gonna be 5-10 minutes. It's silly standing around for 30 minutes - then just having a person log out rather than answering the bell.
And so it's not seeming like picking on faction people - the same can be said if you're making a sending to meet with a person. If you're on your way or busy - just let a person know. I know sometimes it's in the heat of the moment of battle when you get a ding or a sending, but try to remember standing around waiting for a person for 30-45 minutes is incredibly silly and annoying.
Yes - this can all be handled in character, but it is an ooc courtesy.
-
I completely agree. There are times when things come up sure and you have to quickly log out or even forget. If it's happening over and over again, that's a healthy amount of lamesauce.
Cheers,
Geek.

be nice to get tells like, were all on a dm quest, forget it.
-
I tend to do it the other way around I shoot the player a tell asking if they are busy then I make sendings or ring bells.

It's probably better to just ring the bell first. It doesn't take long, but if you think someone is on and you ring the bell and not hear anything back for a bit, keep in mind those "Someone rang the bell" messages can get swamped and lost in combat text as it zooms by in combat.. As long as you are not spamming the bell, it may be best to ring it again if you haven't received a tell or gotten the "you receive no response" message.

I'll generally ring the bell once, and if nothing happens the first five or ten minutes, make an angry IC emote and ring it harder.

The point is you rarely get a tell saying they are coming or if they aren't least my way i know if im wasting my playtime before i bother, takes even less time as i don't have to go to the factions head quarters in the first place.
Of course if i don't want to speak to a certain character and anyone of the group would do then i just ring the bell and bugger off after 5 mins of no response. -
Well - people used to be courteous and send tells that they were coming or busy. When I'm in a faction - I 98% of the time will send a tell to some one who's ringing if I'm busy or whatnot. It's a -courtesy-. And a forgotten one at that.
-
To be fair shea some still do that saying no one does is alittle unfair.

OK
If you have been given the privilege of a Bell in your faction, you are expected to respond to them. This is in two ways.
-
IC - In a DM faction, one of your responsibilities of being in a DM faction is to run the business of the faction, which involves answering the bells. If you cannot be bothered, we can find someone else who would like to be in the faction instead of you. If it's IC not to answer the bell, you need to consider whether it is still IC for you to be in the faction. You gain benefits from being in the faction, those benefits come with duties and your NPCs do not allow you to skip those duties.
-
OOC - If you cannot respond IC, then you need to be courteous and respond OOC with polite tell informing whoever rang the bell that you cannot attend because XXX. There are times when you cannot attend the bell. This is not an issue. All we ask is that you are courteous to your fellow players.
Not sure that this needs any further discussion. It should be happening. In some cases it is, but obviously not enough.
Get to it, Faction Members. Look after your faction!
