Evil Clerics

Priests of Mask t…. i wil pretend to be good priest unless i am with rouges
You didnt say "Mask" initialy you said Evil. Big, big difference.
and why would you reveal yourself to fine grit polishing compo… uhm, rogues. They may well be rogues of good intention.
Might be easier to hide as a priest of some vaguely neutral god, then pretend to be good.
And dont forget to conisder that your "Bluff" skill and "Persuade" skills should have significant points dumped into them if your whole public life is a act. -
A priest of Waukeen is a great cover for maskarran!

Half the Waukeen worshipers I've ever seen in NWN games were actually Mask worshipers. Jumped on that bandwagon with Jhlessia, but she wasn't a cleric.
One of my favorite evil clerics I've met on Arabel was Lord Whitemere, the Legion cleric of Bane. He openly admitted he was a cleric of Bane, but when my Tormite Sheriff confronted him about it, he explained calmly his reasons behind worshiping Bane. He explained about his belief in order and how this belief was strengthened by certain events in his backstory.
I find Evil clerics to be difficult to believe. Very few people are evil for the sake of being evil, most "evil" people are just not afraid to do the wrong thing for personal gain. If your character can explain, in terms that would make sense to an average person, why he/she is a cleric of an evil deity, then it makes it SO much better. (Note: same can go for good clerics. Why do they follow that God? Very important to portray a cleric well.)

my personal feeling is that i can choose to reveal who i worship or not regardless of what god i follow. A lot of "good" aligned PC's will ask every cleric they meet who they worship whereas most "evil" aligned PC's wont ask that question. I think they reason they ask is to OOC find out alignments and basically metagame. I think most Evil clerics serving Evil gods would not declare themselves so openly. Portraying a cleric of Bane as some kind of philanthropist is all very well but i wonder how well that would work when asking for magical prayers? Portfolio: strife, hatred, tyranny, fear. I would expect a cleric of bane to personify these domains.
At the end of the day i think you should RP your cleric as you see fit, i also think a DM should remove your spells as s/he sees fit. Having said that playing a truly evil PC is difficult.

Having said that playing a truly evil PC is difficult.
well that's probably because most clerics will not see themselves as evil. Truly evil PC's is subject to change and different to everybody, or to small groups of players. Ah, look at me, I'm rambling again… Next.

Actually Bane would dislike one of his clerics not saying they follow Bane, he wants you to fear him
-
no your wrong :P fear of the unknown and all that, RP the way yuo think you should not how someone else thinks you should
-
Fear of the unknown would fall into something a Cyrican or Mask follower would seek to aim for, not a cleric of Bane. Unless you are on a mission, where it is paramount that no one knows who you are before it is too late, I cannot see why you would lie about serving Bane. He is Lawful Evil after all.

The lesson here is this is all open to interpretation and circumstantial to a degree, and people insisting otherwise are full of it. I surmise this falls under the umbrella on having had success at "playing CoA correctly" so that it is forumlaic and boring.

exactly my point
