Please stop killing my server
-
I love this server. I came back today with the thoughts of rolling a new character. Haven't been around for three months or so, figured I'd see what was going on. I log into IRC and idle for a few minutes.
I hear players slating DMs. I hear one particular player who I thought was a decent guy calling Mr Moloch a Cancer. I chat with another DM who is thinking about hanging up his boots because of how thankless his job has become.
I read through the announcement forum and see scores of people who were excellent scripters and storytellers leaving in droves because of the attitude of a vocal few in the player base.
You need to stop and think about what you are doing. There are not many great story tellers left to replace the current crop of DMs. There are not many scripters that have yet to be driven away. You are in danger of dismantling something that you love, and you probably aren't even aware you are doing it.
DMs, please man up. Don't be scared of banning clowns who bring the vibe of the server down. I know the player count is low, but we would all be better off without this element around.

Interesting thread…..

Hey, I'm just getting back to this after a few months of break myself. I don't spend hardly any time on irc, so I don't see a lot of the crap that goes on there. I will take this oppertunity to say that I have some deep appreciation for what the dms do here. I've been involved in this server for quite a few years, and most of today's crop of dms were my role playing buddies not so long ago.
Am I a super role playing genius? Well no, but I like playing with you guys. Some of you are pretty creative and have entertained me plenty over the years.
Have I ever met any of you personally? Well no, though at this point I would probably consider some of you worthy of meeting as RL friends.
Right now the dms have a thankless job. I really wish it wasn't a job. It would be great if we were sitting at a table across from one another while playing. I think it would give us perspective. It would give us a chance to say thank you. We are all united in our love for D&D and the stories that we tell here. I think people should act a little more like ooc friends.
I appreciate what the dm team has done to keep this server up and tell the stories they tell with us. There's no need to clutter the time we spend together on this server with negative stuff. You guys are great - really. I hope that we can keep telling stories together and having fun as friends.

I thought it was a given that they are the lifeblood of the server. Without it we wouldn't have countless hours of entertainment and they ARE the server, despite what people say about player plots, it could not be done without the DM team. Those who accuse them of favouritism or failRP or just bad DM'ing need to get out of our server and find a new one.

Not sure this thread is going to help anyone.

I'm positive it won't. Specially because I've seen so many times the same "server count low, players are making DM's poof, Arabel going to end"… Arabel is not going to end. Our community is mostly made by good folk that like to have fun with stuff we do. The rest that don't like what we do and stick playing with us are just being stupid.
Cheers
