Should you do something IC that you hate, or find boring ooc
-
I've just wanted to post this up.
Here's an example of what i mean
Let's say, Player A is playing a LN Fighter he rolled this guy up mostly as just a sword for hire, doing odd jobs when he has been hired to kill someone. well the PC would gladly take the money, but Player A (Owner of the PC) hates PVP in all forms and finds no rewarding part out of it. Should Player A do take the contract or not?
-
Player A) Shouldn't play a Neutral-to-Evil sword for hire that agrees to hits. He should play characters that avoid direct conflict.
It's a bit like this: don't play a spider worshipper if the sight of NWN spiders makes you faint.
That said, Player A) needs to stop being a wuss and get into the world of PvP because it'll make him a far more consistent player who can enrich the game-world through means of conflict that have, until then, not been available to him. It's not like he'll be able to avoid it forever. What if someone puts a bounty on his character? Even if you avoid mechanical PvP like the plague you might still end up giving some character a very good reason to wanting to kill or fight you.Trust me, I know. I hate losing PvP so I avoid it as much as I can. But what do you know, there'll always be characters who hate mine just for what they are or what they are trying to accomplish. So PvP rolls around, and at some time or another, it becomes mechanical. Then, due to my lack of experience, I die or lose and feel frustrated.
Better to embrace it than to loathe it since you can't avoid it anyway. And characters that try to be friends with everyone are boring.

Nobody else really needs to reply. Jasede, once more has pretty much told the blunt truth of the matter.

Delanish, you don't "have" to do it if you don't want to.
It is a game and we're all playing it to have fun.
LN fighter =/= assassin. I'd rather say LN is much closer to law enforcer. Go straight to the sheriffs, let them handle it.
If you're playing an evil character and still don't feel like killing that guy - double-cross your client.
My point being: With enough imagination and a flexible concept you will always be able to play your character right AND not be forced into doing boring/unpleasant stuff. -
OR, do what's fun for you. We play the game to have fun. Sometimes it's more fun than others. Sometimes we lose and it sucks. But at the end of the day it's about making sure your time spent is rewarded with enough fun to make it worth it.
I haven't met anyone on the server in the 6 months I've been here that wouldn't give you an option around PvP if you sent a polite OOC tell that you didn't want to be involved. This might get you excluded form certain groups and plots that are PvP heavy… but that's what you want.
Have fun. The end.

This question is silly really! Dont mean to be mean but.
Your asking if you should bore yourself while playing a game.
No. Its a game, its to have fun. Isn't this obvious? If you dont find something fun, dont do it.
Please dont bore yourself. Have fun, its what the server is for.

+1 to above, boring? comeback later, have a cup of tea. then start doing the things you like, this will limit your options for lawful merc-for-hire, but ask yourself, do you really care?

I have a different take on this than others.
Yes, I agree that you should not do what is boring to you, but I am the kind of person that will suffer through something they dislike in order to bring fun to others. There is a point when enough is enough, but it takes a good long while for me to get there.
In the end, I am a giver and will endure for the greater good of the player base in the hopes that they will return the favor some day.

PS. I don't like PvP either.

ok, ok, ok
didn't see it from that point of view,
but it not that hard to have that view point with a former character so deep in my mind that everytime I watch a screen shot and see norieth I grow sad, thank you former e-gurl, thank you… anyway... now I read it I find myself agreed to this to. except my limit is pvp then the line stops.

.Free your minds, people, the rest will follow.
You can get engaged in something like this in SOOO many ways without doing something you dislike..
As one person said, talk to the sherrifs (if you're N is more NG than NE)
Or… find a assasin, and be a go-between... at a nice percentage.
Or... as someone said, double-cross them...
or.. double-double-cross them. Come up with some excuse for the sponsor to be present, or at least nearby. Inform the target, so they might probably go after the sponsor. and... also... confide/arrange in yet a couple others to pick up the mutilated pieces afterwards, with you getting half in exchange for delivering easy targets.
