Wondering

Hey all, I have a quick question; is CoA v5 coming with a vault wipe? And if so, is it going to be soon-ish, or is there time?
I used to have a character back in 2009 (wow that seems like ages ago, was running around with the Bhaliir folks at the time) and was wondering if I should pick that up again, or if there is little point and I should wait until after the wipe to roll a new character.
Other than that, it's great to see the server's still going, and still with the old DMs here!
Hoping I'll settle down soon to catch up in-game.

[I'm also trying to edit out my ancient signature but apparently my IP is blocked because it is blacklisted, curses on my usb-stick "surf ab sofort"…]

Moloch will be revealing things bit by bit here.

As to returning your character from 2009, I don't think that's the best route to go, would personally prefer to see a new fresh concept. You'll also likely want to get acquainted with all the changes to the city (there have been a lot) and this might be better achieved with a brand new character.
If you really wish to bring this old character back, you could speak to a DM via PM's.

Howdy, I deleted your forum signature because I'm just a nice fellow like that.
There is not yet a date on when v5 is coming. This means it is several months off at least, when the DM team feels they are close enough they can reliably predict when v5 is coming while still leaving room to wrap up v4 as well as can be done, we'll let players know.
I'd also point out, that space in between v4 and v5 would make an excellent opportunity to test the waters with ideas for a v4 character or build. No reason to 'wait' off playing and having fun!

Awesome. And thanks for the signature fix, it's kind of embarassing really :D
Does this mean that it's "acceptable" to make a new concept now, and once V5 comes along, to re-make it immediately, or something very similar?
I'm asking about continuing with the same character "archetype", not necessarily having it be the same person post-wipe.

Back when we switched from v2 to v3, some people would remake "roughly" the same character, but give it a different name.
Its not something we really tried to police, even though we wanted 'new and fresh' at the start of the new server. At the least though, change names, change personality a little. So people don't say "Wow John is just Jim 2.0. How dull."
But people are here to have fun, so do what is fun.

I thought so, alright. We all have certain character types that we stick to, so I might try something different now, just to see how it works. And if it doesn't, I can return to my comfort zone for v5.
Now my quest is to find stable internet.

I'm all for encouraging players to try something out of the comfort zone.

I would think of V5 as one of the big game releases that keep on getting delayed, which makes you wait for something that may never happen.

Like the four days that Olouth played a LG PAladin?

Roll up something fresh – you might enjoy a new direction. I've got some spare concepts lying around if you're scraping for ideas; otherwise, there are threads with hundreds (if not thousands) of suggestions.

I don't even remember that….what was the name of his character?
