RE: Discussion
Nothing stops you from making a new character and helping out new players like you do now.
Couldn't agree more. Granted you won't have a walking COA encyclopedia of history eyewitnessed like Rav was starting the day after server wipe, but can still use the char to help others new chars on the server and after a year or two..will be amassing tales and stories to whisper into the passing char's ear just like good ole Rav did

RE: Discussion
Love the idea of an official NPC DM sponsor system! Being part of Thunderholme Trades and Gentle's and Company, both of which where not DM factions but rather had NPC sponsors which were gained by organzing a group with player driven ideas and plots, I can't speak highly enough for the method. We moved alot of player plots and ideas forward with just a little nudge from the DMs and was a great way to gather Players together and really make them feel involved and that they were actually running the faction and it was up to them to make it succeed or fail. Sink or swim was the mentality the NPC gave us, the more risk taken the more reward given. Made us get off our asses and try to reach for the stars and was that much more fulfililng when we did succeed. The feeling of buidling something from scratch has a certain warm fuzzy feeling in the belly you just can't get elsewhere. And when it blows up in your face, yes you are sad, but it's still awesome feeling of well we almost did it! Let's try again!
As for individual scenario for a concept like Rav, I don't see why that couldn't still happpen. You don't need a NPC sponsor to help people if that is your concept for the char. Now if Rav has something specific she wanted to accomplish a "larger" goal that would need some DM support, why not just gather some players willing to be apart of this larger plot and get a sponsor if its something that warrants it. If its just a one time event than I'm sure with a little IRC or talk with DM, something could be set up for such a scenario as well. Book a puffy is there for such things. The sponsor is more for a group concept not an individual's lone wolf type playing style, which can be done regardless of sponsors. I don't get the carrot reference, what carrot, what chasm? What does sponsorship have to do with helping chars as they come on a server? Am I missing something here?
Anyways, gooo NPC Sponsors!

Hydra research
*Kata searches through the stacks of books looking for any information on Hydras, specifcally:
1 - Basic Habits (ie what they eat, where they live, ect)
2 - Weaknesses and best ways hunt them and kill them
3 - Any mention of the recent attack on immersea by one of the creatures*
